Add your signature to Apple Mail.

How to paste your signature into Mail on a Mac and keep its formatting.

Covers: Mail on a Mac (macOS). Mail on iPhone and iPad uses its own, separate signature setting and isn’t covered here.

Steps checked against the official help pages on September 28, 2026. Email apps change their menus; if something looks different, follow the official link below.

Paste your signature

  1. In the builder’s Export tab, copy your signature.
  2. In Mail, choose Mail > Settings (called Preferences on older macOS versions), then click Signatures.
  3. In the left column, select the email account the signature is for.
  4. Click the Add button (+) below the middle column and type a name for the signature.
  5. Turn off Always match my default message font. When it’s on, Apple says the signature uses the font from your Fonts & Colors settings instead of the one you chose.
  6. Click in the right column, delete any placeholder text, and paste with ⌘+V (or Edit > Paste).
  7. Use the Choose Signature menu to make it the default for that account.

Add your logo or photo

If you uploaded an image in the builder, the copied signature doesn’t include it. Apple’s method is to drag the image in:

  1. Find the image you downloaded from the builder in Finder (usually in Downloads).
  2. Drag it into the signature preview on the right, where you want it to appear, typically before your name.

Useful options

  • Place signature above quoted text: turn this off if you want your signature after the quoted message in replies and forwards.
  • If you use iCloud Drive, Apple says your signatures are available on your other Macs that have iCloud Drive turned on.

Apple Mail can look different in dark mode. Send yourself a test with dark mode on and off. See dark mode tips.

Test it

  1. Send a new message to yourself and to an address that uses a different app, such as Gmail or Outlook.
  2. Check the image, spacing and every link.
  3. Reply and forward once to see how it looks in a thread.
